Sitting WIP1

After 2 hours of work.. I am becoming more efficient. mixing colors is always boom or bust, though. I need to sit down and just mix, for many hours, to get used to the color combinations.
I need a title for this one, also.

the GCT: Columbia University.

I visited UPenn, Swarthmore, and Princeton on Monday and Tuesday. Penn and Swarthmore do not compare to Princeton and Columbia, in my opinion. I like 1. Locust Walk 2. the Wharton buildings 3. the ease with which you can sign up for new language classes at Penn, and at both Philly schools creating new extracurriculars [...]

nomenclature.

I’m on The Great College Tour (East Coast Edition) right now, that great (new) tradition that every high school junior/senior/sophomore/whatever partakes in. Now that wireless has completely taken over life, I’d like to share some system names with everyone.There are those names that seem to 1. utilize fear tactics or 2. defy reverse psychology:

hold me down, sweet and low.

Sweet and Low
The new (fantastic) single from Augustana, from their soon-to-be-released (that’d be a month) new album, Can’t Love, Can’t Hurt.
anywhere you go, anyone you meet,
remember that your eyes can be your enemies,
i said hell is so close, and heaven’s out of reach,
but i ain’t giving up quite yet,
i’ve got too much to lose,
hold me [...]

the 80’s and technology.

Together in Electric Dreams
Phil Oakley
I only knew you for a while
I never saw your smile
til it was time to go
Time to go away (time to go away)
Sometimes it’s hard to recognize
Love comes as a surprise
And it’s too late
It’s just too late to stay
Too late to stay

Father, the gate is open.

William Blake moved to Felpham and loved the place. In a letter, he wrote:
…the sweet air & the voices of winds trees & birds & the odours of the happy ground makes it a dwelling for immortals. Work will go on here with God speed–…. I met a plow on my first going out at [...]

I hate days like today.

Blatant racism, immaturity, physical harassment, annoyance, further disturbance of my already-damaged ears. Oh, the joys of public education. Wait, and I thought I was in a good school system? This city/town is nationally ranked for a good education system, and the school has repeatedly won national awards and has an obscene number of Presidential Scholars. [...]

Girl in Blue (previously Thick As Thieves)

Girl in Blue. 2008. 16″x22″, oil on birch.
I added the finishing touches today. It’s still very wet. It was a beautiful day, though. I worked outside for the first time in months. Plus, I finally took photos during the day, so the colors are now true to life.
It’s hard to pinpoint the transition from a [...]

incompleteness? (a Gondal poem.)

Alone I sat
Emily Jane Brontë
Alone I sat; the summer day
Had died in smiling light away;
I saw it die, I watched it fade
From misty hill and breezeless glade;
And thoughts in my soul were gushing,
And my heart bowed beneath their power;
And tears within my eyes were rushing
Because I could not speak the feeling,
The solemn joy around me [...]
